What is Sporting
Sporting is a shooting sport in which shotgun (firearms) are shot in simulated bird flight using specially adapted targets, thus creating a variety of situations that characterize what happens in hunting. In the vernacular, you can simply say that sporting is shooting at flying targets (clay targets).
Difference between standardized targets, like skeet or trench trap, in sporting target flights are brought closer to the flight of birds or the movement of small animal in nature. It can be argued that sporting is the closest sport to hunting in nature.
Shooting with hunting shotguns at live birds or at targets has existed since the 17th century, used by hunters to train for hunting or to compete with each other. The first rules governing these activities were adopted only in the 19th century. These rules were used to turn simple entertainment into sporting events. Since the second half of the 20th century, shooting has been considered an elite and prestigious sport. Sporting is often called golf with a shotgun.
Sporting has been in Latvia for 20 years and has recently gained huge popularity. In addition to athletes, ordinary hunters also participate in sporting competitions at least a couple of times a year to improve their skills.
Several disciplines are currently combined under the word "sporting" in Latvia - sporting, Compak sporting and English sporting. Each discipline has different rules, but all disciplines are exciting, interesting, require high concentration and weapon handling skills.
The Latvian Sporting Federation invites everyone interested to try their skills in shooting at clay targets and, perhaps, in the future, you will not be able to imagine yourself without this sport.
